What is an eligible Client?
The Small Business Development Center at The Summit Medina Business Alliance (SBDC) provides assistance to Small Businesses. This includes:
- Anyone who owns or works at a small business
- Anyone considering starting a small business
The definition of a small business varies depending on the type of business. According to the Small Business Administration (SBA), a Small Business is:
- Manufacturing - Fewer than 500 employees
- Distribution/Wholesale - Fewer than 100 employees
- Retail - Less than $6 Million in Annual Sales
- Professional and Other Services - Less Than $6,000,000 in Annual Sales
What the SBDC does for our clients?
The SBDC helps individuals interested in starting a business understand how to plan to operate their business successfully, set up financial and cash flow management records and controls, and prepare documentation to obtain a business loan.
The OSBDC offers a broad range of sevices for existing businesses to help them meet their growth needs, or to operate more efficiently.
What the SBDC Does Not Do:
The SBDC does not provide loans or grants. The SBDC has no money to lend to individuals or businesses, and is not involved in any grant activity.
The SBDC does not prepare business plans. The SBDC will provide assistance and guidance, and wherever possible identify sources of information relevant to the Business Plan, but the preparation of the Business Plan is the responsibility of the entrepreneur.
SBDC Business Advisors cannot provide tax advice. We can and will point out tax issues, but for tax advice we will refer the entrepreneur to a tax attorney.
